Reflections on the District 8 Convention: A Call to Action

Congressman Mark Harris giving District 8 update from Washington!

April 12th’s, District 8 Convention was a powerful reminder of the energy and potential within our party. As we gathered to discuss our path forward, I walked away with five key takeaways that I believe will shape our movement in Anson, Cabarrus (part), Mecklenburg (part), Montgomery, Richmond, Robeson (part), Scotland, Stanly, and Union counties.

1. Unprecedented Energy

District 8 is alive with passion. Despite North Carolina’s strong support for President Trump in three consecutive elections, we’ve struggled to secure key Council of State seats. That frustration has sparked a fire in both longtime conservatives like myself and a wave of new faces eager to make a difference. This growing engagement is the foundation of our strength and a clear sign we’re on the path to defeating the Democrats.

2. Welcome New Voices

Our party thrives on diverse perspectives, even when we don’t always agree. We’re seeing incredible momentum across our counties, district, and state, but we can’t rest on that. We must eagerly invite new voices into the conversation, encouraging fresh ideas and active participation. Engaging newcomers ensures we break free from the status quo and keep our movement dynamic.

3. Balance Experience and Leadership

No single group should control our party’s direction, but we’d be foolish to ignore the wisdom of seasoned members who choose to share it. November’s results proved that people are hungry for strong, fearless leadership. That demand is fueling our progress, and we must nurture it by empowering new leaders while respecting valuable experience.

4. Stand Firm on All Fronts

The Chair left a strong impression by his well ran meeting.

Not every disagreement brands someone a RINO, and the “old guard” isn’t always the problem. But we need leaders who refuse to waver on civil and social issues, especially when faced with the radical agenda being pushed by Democrats. They’ve woven their policies into our culture—even our churches—while we’ve been too passive. We didn’t choose these battles, but we must fight them with unwavering conviction to protect conservative values.

5. Support, Accountability, and Vision for New Leaders

Our new leaders deserve our congratulations for stepping up to drive our party forward. Holding them accountable is essential, but it’s not the same as treating them as adversaries. We should inspire them to lead with energy, championing the vision of the people and party they represent while bringing their unique style to the table. Together, we stand united against complacency and the Democratic Party’s agenda—because strong leadership is how we win.

Moving Forward

I’m excited and encouraged by what I saw at the convention, but we can’t afford to slow down. Municipal elections are coming this year, and the 2026 midterms are right around the corner. It’s time to stop spinning our tires and charge toward progress. Our movement is powerful, and with focus and unity, we’ll turn this energy into victories.

Let’s keep pushing, District 8. The future is ours to shape.
